Turning Worm News - Washington DC Activism
Much of the discussion about women’s participation in the Iraqi
elections has centered around how Iraqi women will participate in the
vote. There's been concern that men will unduly influence the votes of
their female relatives.

With Obama’s recent announcement of an influx of 30,000 troops into Afghanistan, the occupation of Iraq seems to have fallen off the radar despite the looming 7th anniversary of the US invasion coming up on March 19th. However with elections coming up on March 7th, rising sectarian tensions, conflict over oil, and a population devastated by unemployment and decimated infrastructure, we feel it’s important for anti-war activists to know what’s going on in the country.

CALL THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25, BETWEEN 9 AND 5 pm AND LEAVE A MESSAGE ON THE HOTLINE, 202-353-1555, DEMANDING A CIVIL RIGHTS INVESTIGATION INTO THE CASE OF MUMIA. PLEASE SOUND LOGICAL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE: THAT YOU KNOW THE DEPT. OF JUSTICE HAS THE JURISDICTION TO CONDUCT A CIVIL RIGHTS INVESTIGATION WHEN EGREGIOUS VIOLATIONS OF CIVIL RIGHTS HAVE TAKEN PLACE.

The rapid mobilization of U.S troops in Haiti was not primarily
done for humanitarian reasons; we're likely to see a neoliberal
economic plan imposed, at gunpoint if necessary.

No one has the right to kill, or so we are told. Regardless of motive, murder is illegal, and the legal system rightfully sets the bar at a very high level before excusing this act. Not so where the government is concerned. Our constitutional law professor president, Barack Obama, like his predecessor George W. Bush, claims the right to murder American citizens. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, Bush gave the CIA and later the military, permission to kill American citizens abroad if those persons were declared threats to the United States, its people or its interests.

Those hardest hit in what was worst snow storm to strike Washington DC in 30 years were the district's homeless.
While most DC residents found warmth and comfort in their homes in the wake of "Snowmageddon", for Washington's six thousand homeless people the storm was a life-threatening situation.
The US capital does have an emergency hypothermia hotline during winter months and volunteers are taking action to help, but finding enough shelters to accommodate the large number of homeless has proved challenging.
